ADVANCED PROJECT SCHEDULING SOFTWARE



COURSE DESCRIPTION:     This intensive skill-building training program emphasizes hands on exercises in a PC lab setting, using the particpants own project schedule.   Session topics include: analyzing and optimizing the schedule, tracking resource allocation across several projects, creating tables, views, filters and buttons to assist with everyday tasks and customizing reports.   Communicating the project status to senior levels of the project team is an integral part of this training program.

          Develop advanced skills required to utilize Microsoft© Project to plan & track complex projects
          Learn how to clearly communicate the current project status
          Optimize their existing schedule
          Learn how to assign and track resources to multiple projects
          Unlock the secrets of Tables, Views, Filters and the Tool Bar
          Create custom reports on your project

COURSE CONTENT:

DAY ONE

Morning:

Module 1:
          Review of MS Project© basics
                            Scheduling Methods
                            Task Relationships, Constraints
                            Critical Path
                            Calendars
                            Views
                            Resources
                            Estimating, Work Breakdown Structure, Outlining
                            Communicating the plan, Reports
                            Exercise: Create a sample schedule utilizing the appendices provided

Afternoon:

Module 2:
          Advanced Features
                            Creating Tables, Views and Filters
                                   Exercise:     Create specified Table, View and Filter

                            Resources and multiple projects
                                   Exercise:     Create a resource pool and utilize it with several project files

                            Customizing the Tool Bar
                                   Exercise:     Modify the Tool Bar per instruction set

                            Macros (optional)
                                   Exercise:     Create a macro to perform the functions provided



DAY TWO

Morning:

Module 3:
          Analysis of Project Schedule
                                   Ensure the details are correct
                                   Level Resource workload
                                   Identify the project's Critcal path
                                   Optimize the project schedule
          Exercise:     Create at least two different solutions to your project.
                                   One solution must optimize timing and another cost

Afternoon:

Module 4:
          Custom Reports
                            Creating reports for: Sponsor, Steering Committee and Team Members
                            The role of Tables, Views and Filters in reports
          Exercise:     Create Gantt charts with varying levels of detail for presentation to
                                   Steering Committee, Sponsor and Team Members

Module 5:
          Action Plan
          Participants will start a scheduling goal exercise on their own project applying the
            concepts covered in this project scheduling program including:
                            Week 1:      Provide Gantt chart depicting the Critical Path
                            Week 2:      Provide a sample status report for Steering Committee / Sponsor levels
                            Week 4:      A scheduling document that includes: the complete schedule, resource
                                                    allocation and team member calendars

          Participants may provide a paper & disk copy of schedule goals for follow-up within 30 days
